Restoring Meridian: A Classic 1972Pearson 390
Welcome to our journey on Meridian, our 1972 Pearson 390, hull number 39. Possibly, the last one ever built. Our voyage on Meridian began on January 1, 1991 when my wife Sue and I purchased her from a loving family in New Jersey. We spent many nights and weekends preparing Meridian for the voyage down the Jersey coast, up the Delaware Bay and through the C&D canal to her new home on the Chesapeake Bay where she’s been ever since.
At the time we had one daughter, but over the years, we added three more to the crew! We’ve spent countless hours sailing most of the Bay with our crew who are all capable of handling her. Over the years we made upgrades and improvements to her until 2016 when we embarked on a total refit. Other than a bit worn looking, Meridian had some soft spots in the aft quarterdeck. I had our surveyor confirm the rest of her was “as sound as she was when I first saw her”, that was in 1991! This green-lighted our nearly six-year, on the hard, refit. We lost about two years to Covid shutdown and an addition to our oldest daughter’s new home. Documented here are all the many projects for the reincarnation of Meridian. We hope you enjoy, or get a bit of inspiration. There are many old boats with good bones that could use a second chance at life on the water.
Please follow us on our Facebook page on our journey down the AICW to Florida for the winter. Somewhat of a home going for her as she spent most of her life sailing in Florida and the Caribbean prior to us.
